Interns in Dalton High School's Transition Academy are energizing their community through their new "Java Cats" program, an in-school coffee shop serving smiles and iced coffee. The Transition Academy launched their Java Cats coffee shop in mid-September in partnership with Dalton High's Food and Nutrition department.

Anna La, a junior International Baccalaureate (IB) student at Dalton High School, is encouraging her classmates to practice student leadership by participating in community service. Most recently, La organized a community clean up initiative, gathering 38 people to pick up roadside trash at Brookwood Park and the surrounding areas.
Every year, Dalton High School successfully prepares students for their Advanced Placement (AP) exams. The school is now home to 36 AP Scholars for 2021, including eight AP Scholars with Distinction and six AP Scholars with Honor.
Jason Lin, senior at Dalton High School, has been recognized as this year's winner of the Karen Lightbody Scholarship for his outstanding piano skills. The Karen Lightbody Kirkman Piano Scholarship is administered by the Dalton Education Foundation. It is gifted to one applicant a year and pays for the recipient's continued musical lessons.
Bliss Jones is being celebrated for her dedication to excellence throughout the 2020-2021 school year. As the district COVID coordinator, Jones is recognized for playing an essential role in implementing the COVID response for Dalton Public Schools.
From the time that Jennifer Sumner was a child, she knew exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up: a teacher. Sumner was named Dalton Public Schools' Teacher of the Year at the district's annual employee convocation on Thursday, August 5.

David Brock has been named the head boys basketball coach at Dalton High School. Brock served as head boys basketball coach for the last two years at Cass High School where he compiled a record of 35-19 and a state tournament appearance. He also worked as the assistant coach for men's basketball at Oakland University in Michigan before going to Cass. Oakland University 2014 CBI Postseason Quarterfinalist during his time with the team.
Dalton High Athletic Director Jeff McKinney said he is extremely excited about having Brock join the DHS sports program. "Coach Brock comes to us with an extremely impressive background. His past history of player development and growing a program puts him at the top of the list of young, great coaches. We are extremely excited and fortunate to have him," added McKinney. "We look forward to his reign as our new basketball coach."
Brock's defense at Cass was the top ranked defense in Region 7-AAAAA last season, giving up just 47.2 points per game. Brock also spent one season as associate head coach for the British professional team, the Plymouth Raiders of the British Basketball League. He was the youngest associate coach in BBL history.
Brock is a graduate of the University of Alabama and holds a Bachelor's degree in secondary education. He will teach in the social studies department at Dalton High. During his time at the University of Alabama, he served as student assistant for Coach Anthony Grant and the Alabama Men's Basketball Team. The Crimson Tide was 2013 NIT Quarterfinalist during his time with the team.
Coach Brock is replacing former Catamount coach Mike Duffie. Coach Duffie has been hired as the new head boys basketball coach at Pickens High School.
