Carpenter to Lead Catamount Football
"I do believe that football is a metaphor for life, and we have the opportunity to instill a foundation of faith, character, and integrity into young men that will carry them into their adult lives. Ultimately, the type of men we produce will determine our success as coaches."

Dalton High School has announced that Kit Carpenter will take the reigns as the new Dalton Catamounts Head Football Coach, effective immediately. Carpenter is a lifelong Daltonian and a long-time educator and coach in Dalton Public Schools. He has most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the Catamount football team and works as a teacher at the Dalton Virtual Academy and Dalton Alternative Education Program.

Carpenter holds a bachelor's degree in business management from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he attended on a football scholarship and was a four-year letterman as a linebacker. He also holds a master's degree in instructional design and technology from Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut and a doctorate in eLearning from North Central University in Prescott, Arizona.

Carpenter graduated from Dalton High School in 1993, having played four years under Coach Bill Chappell. During his senior year, he was recognized as 3A Defensive Player of the Year.

Carpenter has been a part of the Catamount football coaching staff since 2001 when he began as a community coach. He became defensive coordinator in 2009.

He began his career in education in 2009 at Dalton Middle School as a math teacher/math coach. Carpenter transferred to Dalton High School in 2015 to lead the math lab at the school. In 2016, Carpenter became the director of the district's alternative programs.

In 2019, Carpenter was named the Tom Jones Educator of the Year by the Dalton Education Foundation.

"We are thrilled that Kit Carpenter will be assuming the role of head coach of our Catamount football program," said Stephanie Hungerpiller, principal of Dalton High School. "Coach Carpenter has been an important part of our coaching staff for the last twenty years. Not only does he have an impressive knowledge of the game, but he also builds great relationships with his players. He challenges his players and fellow coaches to be the best that they can be and leads by true example. I have no doubt that he is the best man for the job and look forward to seeing the great things he will do as our head football coach.

"By being a part of the Catamount tradition, I understand what it takes to become a champion and that understanding helped shape who I am as a coach," said Carpenter. "To me, coaching is about taking a young man, showing him that hard work, sacrifice, discipline, heart, commitment, and love for his teammates are the keys to being successful on and off the field. I do believe that football is a metaphor for life, and we have the opportunity to instill a foundation of faith, character, and integrity into young men that will carry them into their adult lives. Ultimately, the type of men we produce will determine our success as coaches."
