Weather & School Operations

At Dalton Public Schools, the safety of our students, staff, and families is our top priority when making decisions about weather-related events. To ensure we are prepared for any potential weather situation, we have established a dedicated Weather Response Team led by Superintendent Dr. Steven Craft.

Weather Response Team

Th weather response team includes Superintendent Dr. Steven Craft, Deputy Superintendent Nick Sun, Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services Robert Shaw, Executive Director of Communications Kendra Pannell, Director of Safety and Security Jeff Wells, and leadership representatives from all school levels.

Together, the Dalton Public Schools weather response team collaborates closely with local safety and law enforcement agencies, as well as the National Weather Service, to continuously monitor weather and safety conditions.

When there is a possibility of inclement weather, the Weather Team meets to assess the situation. They review forecasts, analyze the potential impact on transportation, school operations, and student safety, and make a well-informed decision about school closures or delays.

The primary goal is to ensure the safety of our school community while minimizing disruptions to learning.
