Dalton Public Schools Recognized as Georgia Department of Education Literacy and Math Leader Schools

DALTON, GA — The Georgia Department of Education has named several Dalton Public Schools as 2024–2025 Literacy Leader and Math Leader schools, recognizing exceptional student achievement and growth in reading and mathematics. These honors celebrate schools that demonstrate extraordinary student progress and proficiency on the Georgia Milestones assessments.

Dalton Public Schools proudly congratulates the following schools for their outstanding accomplishments:

Math Leader Schools
  • Dalton High School – High School Growth

  • Dalton Junior High School – 8th Grade Gateway Growth; High School Outstanding Achievement

  • Roan Elementary School – 5th Grade Gateway Growth

Literacy Leader Schools
  • Brookwood Elementary School – 3rd Grade Gateway Growth; 4th Grade Growth

  • City Park Elementary School – 3rd Grade Gateway Growth; 5th Grade Growth

  • Roan Elementary School – 3rd Grade Gateway Growth; 5th Grade Growth

The Georgia Department of Education’s Literacy Leader and Math Leader programs celebrate schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth or achievement on state assessments. The recognitions emphasize the importance of grade-level literacy and numeracy skills — foundational competencies that support lifelong learning and career readiness.

ā€œStrong literacy and math skills open the door for every opportunity our students will encounter in school, in their future careers, and in life,ā€ said State School Superintendent Richard Woods. ā€œThe schools recognized as Literacy Leaders and Math Leaders have shown a deep commitment to ensuring every student has the tools to succeed.ā€

Across the state, 406 schools were named Literacy Leaders, and 479 were named Math Leaders for the 2024–2025 school year. These awards reflect statewide efforts to strengthen foundational learning through new K–12 Mathematics Standards and literacy initiatives aligned with the science of reading.
