Dalton, Georgia — Dalton Public Schools is proud to announce that Faviola Peña, sixth-grade social studies teacher at Hammond Creek Middle School, has been named their 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year.
Peña, a Dalton native and former Dalton Public Schools student, has been an educator with the district since 2019. She began her career at Morris Innovative High School before joining Hammond Creek Middle School, where she currently teaches sixth-grade social studies.
A graduate of Dalton State College with a bachelor’s degree in history and Piedmont University with a master’s degree in history in secondary education, Peña is known for her passion for teaching, her deep commitment to her students, and her dedication to building a welcoming, inclusive classroom.
Her journey into education is shaped by her own story as a student learning English and adapting to a new environment.
“Every day when I arrive at work, I see myself in my students,” Peña shared. “I want to show them that Hispanics can achieve whatever they set out to do. I wake up each morning to be the best educator I can be. I want my students to understand that nothing can hold them back as long as they have the determination and drive to reach their goals.”
Peña believes deeply in the power of relationships and strives to make every student feel valued and supported.
“Every child who walks through my door deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and connected to something greater than themselves,” she said. “Too many students move through school without ever feeling truly acknowledged. I strive to ensure that every student in my classroom knows they are recognized, supported, and that they matter.”
Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a commitment not only to academic excellence but also to mentoring colleagues and giving back to the Dalton community. She serves as a mentor for new teachers, supports schoolwide events, organizes community-focused programs, and partners with local organizations to connect families with resources.
Her impact on students is what she considers the greatest reward of teaching.
“Being named Teacher of the Year was a tremendous honor, but my most meaningful achievement is the daily connection I make with students from all walks of life,” Peña said. “I show up each day not only as their teacher but as someone who truly believes in their potential.”
Dalton Public Schools congratulates Faviola Peña on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her continued dedication to students, families, and the Dalton community.
