DALTON, GA — Dalton Public Schools proudly welcomed Bill Mayo as the newest member of the Dalton Public Schools Board of Education during the Board’s regular meeting on January 12, 2026. Mayo was officially sworn into office on January 5, 2026, and begins his service with a long-standing commitment to leadership, service, and the Dalton community.

A 1981 graduate of Dalton High School, Mayo has maintained a lifelong connection to Dalton and its schools. He brings to the Board of Education a deep understanding of the community, a strong appreciation for public education, and a record of involvement that reflects his dedication to supporting students and schools.

Throughout his career, Mayo has demonstrated a commitment to mentorship and service within Dalton Public Schools, including time spent coaching at the middle and high school levels and supporting school programs through broadcasting and community engagement efforts. His work has consistently reflected a focus on developing young people and strengthening school-community relationships.

Mayo is also a distinguished inductee of the Dalton High School Athletics Hall of Fame, recognized for achievements earlier in his life that helped shape his leadership foundation. While his athletic accomplishments are well known, Mayo’s continued involvement in Dalton Public Schools and his dedication to giving back to the community remain central to his legacy.
