Whitney Lusk Named Dalton High School 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year

Dalton Public Schools is proud to announce that Whitney Lusk has been named Dalton High School’s 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year.

Lusk teaches English Language Arts and ESOL at Dalton High School and has been part of Dalton Public Schools since 2015. She previously taught at Ridgeland High School in Walker County. Lusk holds a Bachelor of Science in English Education from the University of Georgia, a Master of Education from Walden University, and an Education Specialist degree in Advanced Educational Studies from Augusta University.

Lusk said her passion for teaching began during her own school years.

“My love for learning was built by inspiring teachers who took the time to build relationships with me, each offering diverse types of instruction and educational experiences. As I considered my future, I knew I wanted it to be in an educational setting where I would have the opportunity to instill a lifelong love for learning in generations to come.”

Throughout her career, Lusk has focused on building meaningful relationships with students and supporting them during important moments in their lives.

“Teaching high school has given me the opportunity to build relationships with students during a pivotal time of their lives. Many are making decisions about their futures, and my job is to give them the tools and knowledge they need to move confidently into the next chapter.”

As an ESOL teacher, Lusk said her work with multilingual learners has further strengthened her commitment to ensuring every student receives a high-quality education.

“Education is something that many of us take for granted. In many parts of the world, children do not have the same access to the educational opportunities we can provide in the United States. I am mindful of the sacrifices many of my students’ families have made so their children can receive a free, high-quality education.”

Lusk said the most rewarding part of teaching is seeing students grow and succeed.

“The greatest reward I find in teaching is observing my students throughout the learning process. It is truly rewarding to see them learn, grow, recover from setbacks, set goals and achieve them, and ultimately leave better prepared and more equipped for the next chapters of their own stories.”

In addition to teaching, Lusk is actively involved in the school and community. She serves as a competitive cheerleading coach and is a Region 7 representative for the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association. She also supports community service initiatives with her athletes and continues to pursue professional learning to better serve her students.

Dalton Public Schools congratulates Whitney Lusk on being named Dalton High School’s 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year and thanks her for the dedication she shows to students each day.
