📚🐺 Exciting learning is happening in Ms. Guerrero’s classroom! This week, students are diving into the Savvas weekly passage "Wolf Island"  and they’re doing it in a PAWerful way! 🐾 Using small groups and the parallel co-teaching model, students are getting more focused support while they read.  👏 A big shoutout to Ms. Belman and Ms. Chesser, the support teachers working alongside Ms. Guerrero. Together, they’re helping make sure every student has the tools and guidance they need to succeed. 🧠✨ Way to go, team! #DaltonReads #WolfIsland #Savvas #TeamTeaching #LiteracyInAction

FIT Georgia Assessment for 4th and 5th Grades

Dalton Public Schools administers the FITGeorgia fitness assessment in compliance with Georgia State Board Rule 160-4-2-.12, which requires all school districts to implement a fitness assessment approved by the Georgia Department of Education. City Park's fourth and fifth grade students will take the assessment on October 14 and 15.

FITGeorgia is a state-developed fitness assessment designed to evaluate multiple components of student health and physical fitness. The program replaces the former FITNESSGRAM platform and aligns with Georgia’s health and physical education standards.

FITGeorgia assesses the following areas: • Healthy Body Range • Aerobic Capacity • Flexibility • Muscular Strength • Muscular Endurance

These components provide a comprehensive snapshot of a student’s physical well-being and serve as a foundation for promoting lifelong health and fitness habits.

Who Participates and What Is Assessed

Grades 4–12: Students are required to complete and report on all five components of the FIT Georgia assessment. The data collected through FITGeorgia serves a variety of educational and public health purposes:

• Students & Families: Can monitor individual health trends and make informed decisions to support wellness and academic success.

• Teachers & Schools: Use results to inform physical education instruction, evaluate program effectiveness, and guide curriculum planning.

• District Administrators: May use data for accountability reporting and to support funding and grant applications.

• Policy Makers & Partners: Public and private organizations, including the Georgia Health Policy Center, may use the data to shape programs, influence policy, and provide resources to improve child wellness statewide.

For more information about the FITGeorgia assessment, visit the Georgia Department of Education’s overview at: Georgia Fitness Assessment Overview

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Mrs. Rhodes’ 1st grade class explored the beautiful country of El Salvador, where Mrs. Rhodes’ family is from! The students enjoyed a special visit from “ Buela” Mrs. Rhodes’ mom, who shared her culture by teaching the class how to make delicious pupusas, a traditional Salvadoran dish. It was a fun and meaningful way for students to learn about family traditions, culture, and the importance of celebrating our heritage!

On World Cerebral Palsy Day, we come together to show support and raise awareness for individuals living with cerebral palsy around the world. This year, we would love for our school community to join in!

💚 On October 7th, we invite all students and staff to wear green.

Green is the official color of cerebral palsy awareness, and by wearing it, we show our care, respect, and solidarity with the millions of people who live with CP.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about kindness, inclusion, and celebrating differences. Thank you for helping us create a school culture that values and supports everyone.

We can’t wait to see our school shine bright in green!💚
